Lt. Col. Wagner is the First American Ace Pilot of World War II. He was the Commander of the 17th Pursuit Squadron at Clark Field on 8 December 1941 when it was attacked by the Japanese. Taking off from Clark Field on 13 December 1941, he succeeded in downing five “zero” fighters in aerial combat over Aparri and destroyed five more on the ground at Vigan Airfield. He was awarded the “Distinguished Service Cross” by Gen. Douglas MacArthur.
